Come to Ghana!

Join us on a cultural tour to Ghana, West Africa and experience the rich and diverse life of this vibrant country! Dada Nii Okwabi, a professional drummer and singer from James Town in Accra, will host your stay and introduce you to the colours, sounds and tastes of his homeland.

Drumming and dancing classes
Drumming and dancing classes are held on weekdays throughout the tour. We cater for all skill levels from beginners to advanced. Our tutors have extensive experience in teaching and performing and will guide you through the components of each rhythm and dance. You will learn rhythms and moves from all over West Africa and learn about their history, meaning and structure.

Private tuition in drumming, dancing and percussion can be arranged on request. The fee is determined by the duration of each private class.

Accommodation
Accommodation is at the Damushi Ensemble Guest House in Kokrobite Beach Road, Accra. Single and double rooms with ensuite are available.

Food
Meals are a range of Ghanaian and western dishes. Vegetarians are well catered for.

Regional tours
Cape Coast region
Two nights and Sanaa Lodge. Visit the slave castles, Elmina fishing port, Kakum National Park and village markets. Relax around the pool at Sanaa Lodge or stroll along the Cape Coast beach.

Akosombo and Lake Volta Region
Two nights at Afrikiko Resort. Take a leisurely boat tour on the river and see the beautiful Akosombo Dam, hydro scheme and the fishing villages along the banks. Board the Dodi Princess and enjoy a cull day's entertainment on the world's largest
man-made dam.

Kumasi & Ashanti Region
Spend time visiting the fabulous Kumasi Museum, visit an Ashanti palace,meet the locals in the markets and tour to an Ashanti village.

Festivals
Enjoy the Ga Festival, the Twins Festival and the Pan African Festival during the last week of the tour in the city Accra, Ghana.

Throw yourself into the following activities!

  • Cooking - learn to cook traditional Ghanaian food.
  • Markets - browse for beads, baskets, textiles, wooden artifacts and traditional clothing
  • Cultural & Arts Centre - lose yourself among all things Ghanaian and enjoy the market place

  • Accra Museum - visit this superbly presented snapshot of Ghana past and present
  • Nkrumah Memorial - stroll through the grounds and museum of this beautiful tribute to Ghana's first president  

Cost
The cost is AUD$3,500 per person. A deposit of $500 is payable when you register. The balance of AUD$3,000 is due within 6 weeks of tour date.

  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday to Thursday and breakfast and lunch on Friday (before the weekend regional tours begin)

What is not included:

  • Airfare to Ghana, Ghana visa, travel insurance, vaccinations and medical kit

  • Accommodation and meals during the regional tours (four nights in total) 
  • Weekend meals for students not taking a regional tour (Friday night dinner to Sunday night dinner inclusive)
  • Entrance fees to places of interest (such as museums and national parks)
    and cruise fees
